UGC validity

UGC, the government body that looks after universities, treats an online degree the same as a campus degree when both of these are true.

  1. 1The BCom is one of the degrees named in UGC’s official list of degrees.
  2. 2UGC allows NMIMS to teach it online.

Certificate wording

Under UGC rules, the back of the certificate says the degree was studied online.

What an online degree certificate says

Employer verification

With the student’s permission, an employer can check the degree on the National Academic Depository, a government website that stores degree records. The check takes up to 24 hours.

Government jobs

The UPSC civil services exam needs a degree from a recognised university. It does not ask how the degree was studied.
