How an online MBA fee structure works

A fee structure tells you two things: how much the course costs, and when you pay it. Most colleges let you choose between paying once a semester, once a year, or all at the start, which colleges call paying upfront. An online MBA has four semesters over two years, so paying each semester means four payments.

The way you pay changes the total. Colleges charge less if you pay earlier. So two students on the same course at the same college can pay different amounts.

That is why you should compare colleges using the same way of paying. If you compare one college's semester total with another college's upfront total, the second will look cheaper than it really is. The figures in this guide are the totals each college publishes for the whole course.

  • Manipal University Jaipur₹1,84,500
  • NMIMS₹2,19,400

Online MBA fee structure at each college

The table shows the total for the whole two-year course at each college, paid upfront and paid each semester. The difference between the two columns is what paying earlier saves.

Each college charges the same total for every specialisation it offers. So a finance student and a marketing student at the same college pay the same.

Semester fees and yearly fees

The ways of paying differ in how often you pay, as well as how much. At Manipal University Jaipur, each semester fee is ₹43,750. At Amity University Online, each semester fee is ₹56,300, which comes to ₹2,25,200 over four semesters.

Only two colleges list a yearly fee. At Manipal University Jaipur, paying yearly costs ₹1,66,250 in total, which is 5 per cent less than the semester total. At NMIMS, it costs ₹2,33,400, compared with ₹2,43,400 paid each semester. Amity University Online and Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth do not list a yearly fee, so ask them in writing whether you can pay yearly.

What paying upfront saves

Paying the whole fee at the start is the cheapest way at every college here. At Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, paying in full also brings a ₹10,000 scholarship, which takes the fee down from ₹1,89,400 to ₹1,79,400.

But paying upfront puts more of your money with the college at the start. So read the refund terms first. UGC's refund table gives you all your fees back only if you withdraw 15 days or more before the last date of admission. See the online MBA refund policy for the full table.

  • Manipal University JaipurYou save ₹17,500 by paying ₹1,57,500 upfront instead of ₹1,75,000.
  • Amity University OnlineYou save ₹18,200 by paying ₹2,07,000 upfront instead of ₹2,25,200.
  • NMIMSYou save ₹24,000 by paying ₹2,19,400 upfront instead of ₹2,43,400.

What the fee includes, and what is extra

A total is only fair to compare if it covers the same things. At NMIMS, the upfront total is made of four parts. Tuition is ₹1,96,000. Exams add ₹19,200, which is ₹800 for each of 24 subjects. The project adds ₹3,000, and processing adds ₹1,200. Together, that makes ₹2,19,400.

Manipal University Jaipur states its fee as all inclusive. Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth includes books, exams, the project and convocation. Amity University Online lists an application fee of ₹6,100, and it does not say whether its fee covers exams.

So before you compare, ask each college in writing what its total includes. See what the headline MBA fee leaves out for the charges that are easy to miss.

Paying by EMI

EMI means paying in equal monthly amounts. At Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, the EMI is ₹11,525 a month for 16 months. EMI is different from paying each semester, because you pay every month instead of four times.

Before you choose EMI, ask what it adds up to in total, and compare that with the semester total. Ask whether any charge is paid outside the EMI, such as a registration fee. Also ask who runs the EMI. If a lender is involved, any interest is a cost on top of the fee, and the loan is with the lender, not the college.

If your income goes up and down

A way of paying that you cannot keep up with costs more than any saving. If your income goes up and down, the semester fee or EMI may suit you better than one large payment.

The course also gives you some room. An online MBA allows up to double its minimum length, so a two-year course gives you up to four years to finish. Each college sets its own rules about taking a break, so ask before you need one. If a payment date falls in a difficult month, ask the college early whether the date can move. A request made before the due date is easier for a college to agree to than one made after it.

Think about the next two years, not only this month. A new job, a move or a family event can all change what you can pay. So choose a way of paying that still works if your plans change.

If you borrow to pay the fee

If you take an education loan from a bank or another approved lender, you can deduct the interest from your taxable income. This is allowed under section 129 of the Income-tax Act, 2025, for up to eight tax years. The deduction covers the interest only, not the amount you borrow. It is also not available under the default tax regime.

So compare the interest on a loan with the saving from paying upfront before you decide. See the education loan for an online MBA guide for the full rules.

Choosing a way of paying

Do these five steps before your first payment, while you can still choose. Keep the payment schedule where you will see it, and set a reminder a week before each date.

  1. Add up each way of payingCompare the upfront, yearly, semester and EMI totals for the whole course.
  2. Check what each total includesAsk whether exams, the project and convocation are inside the total.
  3. Read the refund termsRead them before you pay upfront, because more of your money is committed.
  4. Match the dates to your incomeCompare when each payment is due with when you are paid.
  5. Get the schedule in writingAsk the college for every amount and every due date in writing.
